Severine wins a defended divorce, February 11, 2011
Severine recently acted on a defended divorce which went all the way to a 2 day final contested hearing. Severine was instructed by the Petitioner husband in this matter, who petitioned for divorce on his wife’s unreasonable behaviour towards him. His wife defended the divorce, on the basis that she did not accept that the marriage had irretrievably broken down.
The evidence was heard by a circuit judge and judgment was handed down on 9th July 2010. The judge found in favour of the Petitioner and pronounced decree nisi. The divorce will now be made final in 6 weeks time.
Contested divorces are quite rare and only about 12 reach a final hearing in England and Wales every year. The final hearing takes place in open court where public can attend and listen to the proceedings.
