  • Living together but planning to part
  • Married but planning to part

  • Already divorced

How does Family Mediation Work?

Your first meeting is an assessment meeting where you and the mediator decide if mediation is right for you. This is called a MIAMS.

You can attend this meeting on your own or come with your former partner. The mediator will spend time alone with each of you.

After the assessment your mediator will arrange a series of meetings for you both to attend. You may each have an idea of what problems or issues need to be resolved but have differing views on how to resolve them.

The mediator will help you identify the issues on which you can both readily agree and then work with you both to find the best solution to any remaining issues. These can include;

  • Child issues
  • Finance and property issues
  • All Issues Mediation (AIM) – a combination of Child and Finance & Property issues

How much does Family Mediation cost?

Your assesment is free.

Your mediator will carry out a financial assessment at your initial free assessment meeting.

If you do not qualify for legal aid, then a session fee is charged and we will discuss this at your initial free assessment meeting.
